This is where we come to an air purifier that’s at the same time affordable and highly functional – and that would be the Alen T500 Tower Air Purifier with HEPA-Silver. The device made by Alen are something we’re always glad to test out since they’re highly popular among the users.
This one comes with some pretty interesting features – it is lightweight and portable, has a good coverage area, an ozone-safe ionizer, a quality HEPA filter, as well as the limited lifetime warranty. When we combine all of this with an affordable price, we get a model that’s bound to be popular and highly praised by the users. But is it really as good as they say? Let’s take a closer look and find out!
Features and Technology
As we said, the T500 combines the reasonable price with some pretty interesting features. Some of these features are a standard on the air purifiers in this price category, while the presence of some is pretty surprising. These are the most outstanding features of this impressive device:
In our opinion, the Alen T500 Tower Air Purifier looks very modern, and we could even say – futuristic. The guys and girls responsible for the design definitely did an excellent job here, making a model whose price doesn’t have an adverse effect on its looks. Fortunately, you can get the unit in one of twelve different color combinations. We had the standard silver/black model on testing, and we can’t really say anything bad about its looks.
The Coverage Area
The manufacturer claims that the T500 can efficiently serve the area that’s up to 500 square feet in size, which is pretty impressive for a device that costs under $250. This will allow you to use it in all sorts of living rooms, bedrooms, and offices, where the T500 will be able to successfully remove all the harmful particles by using its powerful HEPA-Silver filter. We tested the device in a dusty room of 470 square feet in size, and the purifier definitely did a good job – no lies there.
The HEPA filter
The HEPA-Silver filter of this purifier is definitely the most important part of its 3-stage filtration system, as it can successfully collect almost 100% of pollen, pet dander, mold, and dust. The other two stages are the washable pre-filter that captures the large particles, and the ozone-safe ionizer, which complements the HEPA filter by causing the particles to stick together and become easy to capture. The combination of these filters works very well, removing all sorts of pollutants from the air and making breathing much easier.
The Alen T500 Tower Air Purifier has a digital display, as well as the touch controls. Using these is as easy as possible, and we don’t really think that you’ll have to use the manual to figure out how everything works. The device’s ease of use is always in important thing for us, and we can safely say that T500 deserves special praise in this field.
The Space-Saving Shape
As the name suggests, this air purifier features the so-called “tower” design, which means that it won’t take too much space anywhere you decided to put it at. This will be especially handy for people living in smaller apartments.
Other Features of The Unit
Like many other air purifiers for mold, the T500 also has three fan speeds – high, medium, and low. This allows the user to select the speed setting to his liking, although you’ll have to get up in order to do that, as the package doesn’t include a remote control.
When it comes to power consumption, this device burns some 53 watts on the highest speed settings, which makes it narrowly qualified for the Energy Star certification. We certainly didn’t expect this certification in this category price – it’s a big plus in our book.
The filter life of Alen T500 is 6 to 12 months with standard usage, which means that you’ll have to change it at least once a year for the continued warranty coverage.
And while we’re on the topic of warranty, this purifier comes with a limited lifetime warranty, which stands as yet another surprise. We’re glad that Alen is starting to give out this kind of warranty more and more as of lately, and we hope that they’ll continue to do so.
We should also mention that the package, along with the device itself, contains one HEPA filter, the owner’s manual, as well as the starting guide.
Even though the manufacturer claims that this purifier for air is suitable for larger rooms, we think that the best idea would be to use it in smaller rooms – such as student dorms, RVs, or small offices. In such spaces, this machine will truly excel, efficiently removing the harmful air pollutants and making the breathing easy, like it should be. In our opinion, the perfect area size for this unit is 125 square feet in size.
What is Wrong with the Product?
When it comes to negative sides, there are two things that we didn’t like here. The unit lacks a true HEPA filter – even though the one used in T500 certainly does its job well, the true HEPA filters are simply the most effective ones, and nothing beats their performance. The other thing we didn’t like is the noise that this machine produces. This isn’t a really a silent purifier, and there are many larger devices that are quieter than this one.
This air purifier was a big surprise for us – although it has some flaws, it actually offers a very good performance and some useful features at an affordable price. We really liked the space-saving design, the large area that the machine can serve, as well as the good warranty period and, of course, the reasonable price. If your budget isn’t that big, search no more – this is the model you’ve been looking for!
